SOPHIE GRéGOIRE TRUDEAU LIFTS LIS ON THEIR MARRIAGE AND SPLIT

• The 304-page book, Closer Together, Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other 
• The mother of three and humanitarian is on a book tour that ends Thursday 

Sophie Gregoire Trudeau has revealed that she 'never perceived' Justin as 'the Prime Minister' as she opens up about their marriage and subsequent split.

Last summer, the high-profile Canadian couple ended their 18-year marriage.

Though she has been discreet about the split, the humanitarian and mental health advocate has been busy raising their three children: Xavier, 16, Ella-Grace, 15, and Hadrien, 10, and shared her new book that focuses on health and wellness.

The 304-page book, Closer Together, Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other that hit bookshelves in late April, is part memoir, part self-help. 

'I wrote this book so that people can know themselves better, love themselves better so that we can give us the maximum tools and opportunities to face the crises that we're facing,' Grégoire Trudeau told Newsweek.

In the book, Sophie shares stories from her own life as she navigates her personal journey towards self-knowledge, and empowerment. 

She shared bits from her early life, including, how she and Trudeau met as children, and how they reconnected in their 20s, their courtship, and her struggle with an eating disorder.

She also offers insight on how childhood can shape mental health, relationships and family dynamics, as per the publication.

One of the topics she covers include, how to seek life's purpose, while addressing past traumas and embracing mental and emotional health.

Experts in the field of psychiatry, science, and thought leaders are also part of the book - including revered clinician and sexologist Ester Perel.

'I always look for that sense of integrity inside of me. Is it the right thing to do? And is it what I do in life?' she said.

 'I won't reinvent myself because I'm now a partner of somebody or people see me in this kind of new position, nonofficial first lady, or whatever. So, I always tried to never believe in a role or a title but stay true to course and remember that's how I need to serve in a way.'

The couple had been married since 2005. In the book she revealed that she fell in love with the man behind the position but had never aspired to be the spouse of a world leader, as per Newsweek. 

'Because I never perceived my partner as a prime minister, I never perceived my marriage as a political marriage or our relationship for that matter,' she said. 

'We were kind of just in the middle of what it means to be out there and scrutinized by the world.'

Sophie is currently on a book tour that kicked off last month and ends on Thursday.

Justin has served as the 23rd prime minister of Canada since 2015, and is the leader of the Liberal Party since 2013. 

After the announcement of the couple's split, the family went on holiday to British Columbia, but has not been forthcoming about their end of their marriage.'
