WICKLOW FAMILY MOURN TRAGIC DEATH OF THIRD CHILD FOLLOWING FATAL CRASH

The Dempsey family in Baltinglass, Wicklow have announced the details for the funeral of their beloved daughter Molly, who died in a car crash last weekend.

The 15-year-old's death is the third tragedy to hit the family in recent years, following the deaths of her brothers Roy in 2007 when he was 13 and Killian, who was 16, in 2016.

She died when a car she was travelling in was involved in the crash just before 5am in Slaney Park, Baltinglass, on May 5.

A teenage boy who was driving the car was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Road Traffic Act, and has since been released while a file is being prepared for the DPP. Gardaí in Wicklow say investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Molly's funeral notice reads 'Molly Dempsey, 5 Whitehall Park, Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow – 5th May 2024 (suddenly, following an accident). Beloved sister of the late Roy and Killian.

'Sadly missed by her broken-hearted parents Nigel and Mary, brothers Joe, Charlie and Jake, sisters Laura, Yvonne and Ella, grandmothers May (Fox) and Dolly (Dempsey) uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family and many friends. May Moll Rest In Peace.'

Molly will repose at home on Thursday afternoon until 8pm, after which time her family have asked for the house to be private. She will be laid to rest following Mass on Friday at 11am at St Joseph's Church in Baltinglass.

Friends and family have paid tribute to young girl, whom they described as a 'beautiful angel'.

'There are no words that can take away your pain but know that everyone is sending you live and keeping you in prayer. God bless you all in the days ahead' said one, while another said 'Molly’s life was taken way too soon, life was only just beginning. May you all unite and help each other through your immense loss.'

Molly is the 70th person to have died on Irish roads so far this year and the third in Wicklow since the start of 2024.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward, particularly anyone with camera footage from the Slaney Park area between 4.30am and 5am on May 5.
