The mum-of-eight revealed that it was the longest she'd ever been apart from any of her children, and posted an excited selfie as she waited in the arrivals hall at Dublin Airport.

Along with Daniel, the host has three other children with her husband Steve Carson, who is Director at BBC Scotland. They are her sons Conor, Jack and Steve.

She also has four daughters from her first marriage to Tom McGurk: Alannah, Clara, Georgia and Jessica.

In a moving clip Miriam updated her followers as she waited at Dublin Airport to welcome Daniel home. She can been seen beaming from ear to ear in a selfie ahead of his landing and made no secret of how thrilled she was to see him again.

Miriam said: 'Very excited! Collecting one of my sons from Dublin Airport - he's been in Australia and New Zealand for almost a year and a half.'

'It's the longest I've ever been apart from one of my children. When I get him home, I am locking him in his bedroom and throwing the key away,' she joked.

Her followers were moved by their touching reunion. 'Ah that's so exciting and you'll be hugging him all day,' wrote one person.

'How fabulous - you must be wishing away the minutes until that first hug,' added a second person.

'I know this feeling it's incredible,' added Newstalk host Ciara Kelly.
